German Medical Journal congratulates Prof. Dr. Harald zur Hausen on the Nobel Prize for Medicine 2008

On December 10th 2008 Prof. Dr. Harald zur Hausen received in Stockholm the Nobel Price for Medicine. The German scientist is awarded for finding that cervical cancer is caused by viral infections.

Harald zur Hausen showed the role of papillomaviruses in cervical cancer and discovered a larger number of novel virus types. His research made it possible to develop a vaccine against one of the most frequent cancer in women.
